Regional Economic Strategy for the Central Puget Sound Region
Developing the Next Five Year Strategy
One of the core functions of the Prosperity Partnership is to develop and implement a strategy to grow our economy and ensure long-term prosperity for the region's residents. The current Regional Economic Strategy - which focuses our region's economic development efforts on seven clusters and six economic foundations - was based on a 2005 comprehensive analysis of our region's economy and competitive advantages.
With the dynamism of both the regional and national economy - and the significant changes due to the current economic downturn - the time is right to re-examine our economy and develop a new strategy for future growth.
Beginning later this year, the Prosperity Partnership will begin a "zero-base" review of our regional economic data to find out where our region's economy and our leading industry clusters stand in relation to the national average. We will also begin outreach to the broad network of regional stakeholders to identify what additional data we should collect and to ensure that the next Regional Economic Strategy meets their needs. The information and input gathered through these processes will form the basis of the Prosperity Partnership's work for the 2011-2016 period.
The 2005-2010 Regional Economic Strategy
On September 27, 2005, the Central Puget Sound Economic Development District Board unanimously adopted the Regional Economic Strategy for the Central Puget Sound Region, a set of detailed action initiatives focused on strengthening our region’s leading industry clusters and rebuilding the foundations of our economy. The original Strategy – focusing on five targeted industry clusters – as well as its summary and the supporting documents used to create it are available below. In 2008, the Prosperity Partnership added to the Strategy by developing approaches to strengthening two additional industry clusters: military and tourism/visitors.
